The Ford EcoSport is the subcompact crossover, a more
affordable but less refined alternative to the compact models. The subcompact
crossovers are not popular as the fast-growing compact class and Ford EcoSport
isn’t great in any aspect. Ford hasn’t equipped this model with the full suite
of active safety systems. The EcoSport is, however, well-rated regarding the
passenger and cargo room in the class. There are also two engine options and
both two- and all-wheel drive. Ford provides also responsive infotainment
system with this model and buyers can also count on the decent fuel economy.
For the 2020 model year, the EcoSport won’t change much. There will be just a few novelties including 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot now standard and larger 8-inch touchscreen installed in the SE version. The Blue Oval Brand will again market the 2020 Ford EcoSport in the same trim range including the base S, mid-range SE and SES, and top Titanium trims. The engine range will again consist of two options and there won’t be mechanical or performance upgrades.
2020 Ford EcoSport: Design
The 2020 Ford EcoSport won’t change the way it looks. The
EcoSport is the Fiesta-based model and it has dated exterior styling.
The model will reappear with the same grille style and
headlights. The profile will also remain the same with the sharp character line
and swollen fenders.
The same picture will also be from the rear side where the
model has an upright stance and old-style taillights and rear bumper.
The pint-sized Ford crossover will use the 16-inch alloy
wheel in two first trims and upper grades will switch to the 17-inch alloys.
The interior of the model will also repeat the same form and
there will be just a few changes in the equipment organization.
The base S version will have standard 4G LTE hotspot from
the new model year and will also provide automatic headlights, Bluetooth, six
speakers, a rearview camera, pair of USB ports, a 4,2-inch center display, etc.
The next in the range SE version will add LED running
lights, fog lights, a sunroof, rear privacy glass, etc. This trim will also
include automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, a
leather-treated steering wheel, parking sensors, heated front seats, upgraded
cloth padding, etc. The EcoSport SE will upgrade for the new model year to the
8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3 interface including Apple Car Play and Android
The SE version will also allow further upgrades with
blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, navigation, more speaker, etc.
The SES version will switch to 17-inch wheels, black
exterior accents, leather upholstery, etc. There will also be the elements like
the rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, and more.
The top EcoSport Titanium will also get unique exterior and interior accents and more premium equipment. The model will use chrome exterior accents and metallic bumpers inserts. The equipment list will also include automatic wipers, heated mirrors and steering wheel, leather upholstery, HD radio, Bang & Olufsen sound system, etc.
2020 Ford EcoSport: Powertrains, Efficiency
The 2020 Ford EcoSport will continue to use the same
powering units. There will be the front- and all-wheel drive available.
The base engine remains a 1.0-liter turbocharged
three-cylinder unit with the output rated at 123 hp and torque of 125
pound-feet. This engine will be standard on the S, SE and Titanium trim. Buyers
can switch from the front-wheel drive to optional all-wheel drive. The
six-speed automatic transmission will be standard.
The SES version will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine by
default as well as all-wheel drive. This engine makes 166 hp and peak torque of
149 pound-feet. Buyers can opt this engine in other trims. The six-speed
automatic is the transmission of choice in this case as well.
As for the fuel economy, the turbo-3 powered EcoSport should
return 27 mpg city and 29 mpg highways. Switch to the four-cylinder engine and
all-wheel drive and you should expect 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
2020 Ford EcoSport: Release, Price
The smallest in the ranger Ford crossover will be available
by the year-end. The most affordable 2020 Ford EcoSport should cost $20, 485.
Upgrade to the EcoSport Titanium 2.0L engine-powered, all-wheel-drive version
and the price will jump to $27, 715.
